New School Bus Driver Training
The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate #21 provides 14 hours of classroom school bus driver training to individuals who are interested in the transportation of school children. The ultimate objective of this course is to provide safe and efficient transportation for school children in Pennsylvania.Pupil Transportation is such an important issue that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a federal safety standard - Standard 17 - of the Highway Safety Act of 1966. To ensure statewide compliance of this safety standard, Pennsylvania has responded with a comprehensive course of instruction sponsored by the Pupil Transportation Section of the Department of Transportation.

The School Bus Driver: Role, Responsibilities, and Requirements
Course units covered during the 14 hours of training include:- Student Management and Discipline
- Student Loading and Unloading
- Transportation of Exceptional Students
- Preventive Maintenance
- Driving Fundamentals I and II
- Crash and Emergency Procedures
- Student Emergencies
- Commercial Driver License (related to school bus endorsement)
School Bus Driver Refresher Certification
A school bus driver must renew their school bus certification every four (4) years by completing a minimum of 7 hours of classroom training. The CLIU provides 7 hours of refresher classroom training with the use of review of the PUB. 117 School Bus Driver Training Manual, hands-on training in a school bus and videos.School Bus Driver Refresher Certification Training Schedule (8 AM – 4 PM)
